Several Impact100 Metro Detroit members and guests enjoyed a visit to 2016 grant recipient, The Empowerment Plan (EP), early in June.
EP founder and director Veronika Scott and development director Erika George beamed as they showed off their new home, as well as the new stitching stations purchased through our grant.Everyone agreed that the large, sunny work area promotes a feeling of energy and confidence for the workers as they learn new skills and contribute to creation of protective convertible coats for the homeless population. With the increased production capacity, these coats/sleeping bags are now being used not only locally, but internationally.
During our visit, we were also thrilled to deliver over 100 hygiene kits that fit perfectly into the pockets of the EP coats! Impact100 Metro Detroit members donated materials for and put together these kits at an event early this year. The kits will also be made available to EP employees. These employees are only recently transitioning from shelters to more permanent housing, and the kits will help lighten the load of expense and worry as they settle into their new lives.
How fulfilling and gratifying to get to see the tangible transformations our efforts have produced. Not a member? Join today and be a part of the excitement!
